Learn to set up, play, and win the NOVA Fantastic Trivia Face Off Game. This guide covers rules, scoring, and tips for family trivia night.

Quick answer

To play the NOVA Fantastic Trivia Face Off Game, each player rolls the die to pick a question type, writes their answer on a wipe-off board, and compares with others. The first to reach 15 points wins.

What makes this game different from standard trivia

Unlike many trivia games that rely solely on multiple-choice or open-ended questions, the NOVA Fantastic Trivia Face Off Game uses four distinct question types: Know It, Name It, Rank It, and chance cards. This variety keeps players engaged and tests different skills, from factual recall to ranking and guessing.

The game also includes over 400 questions with stunning photography and amazing facts, making it a visual and educational experience. It's designed for 2 or more players, ideal for family game night or tween parties.

Who will enjoy this game most

This game works well for tweens (ages 11-13) and families who enjoy friendly competition. The wipe-off boards and die-rolling mechanic make it easy to learn, but younger children may need help reading some questions. If your group prefers cooperative play or very fast rounds, consider that the 15-point target can extend game time.

How to play NOVA Fantastic Trivia Face Off Game

  1. Set up the game: Place the trivia cards face down in the center. Give each player a wipe-off board and marker. Choose a scorekeeper or have each player track their own points. Make sure everyone has a clear writing surface and understands the scoring system before starting.
  2. Roll the die to determine question type: On your turn, roll the die. The result tells you which category to draw: Know It (factual question), Name It (identify from description), Rank It (order items), or a chance card that can double your points. Draw the top card from the matching pile and read it aloud. If you roll a chance card, read it carefully—it may offer a bonus or a risk. Don't skip it.
  3. Write your answer and compare: All players write their answer on their wipe-off board. When everyone is ready, reveal answers simultaneously. The player who drew the card checks the answer key and awards 1 point for a correct answer. For Rank It questions, award points based on accuracy (e.g., 1 point for each correctly placed item). For Rank It questions, partial credit is possible—agree on a scoring rule before the game starts to avoid disputes.
  4. Reach 15 points to win: Play continues clockwise. The first player to reach exactly 15 points wins. If a player exceeds 15 points, they do not win—play continues until someone hits exactly 15. This rule prevents runaway victories and keeps the game tense until the very end. If you prefer a shorter game, set a lower target like 10 points.
